Thanks. The stupid bridge fell out again last night, so I started seeing stars again. Not eating has been rough, but I think the quasi-temptation to smoke is an ancient knee-jerk reaction to stuff I don't like. I appreciate all the seasonal advice though, because that's where I got nailed every time. I don't think I ever heard that "one puff away from one pack a day" before, or if I did, I didn't believe it. NOW I do!!

I do have the best dentist in the world, though. He and his staff are killing themselves to keep this thing cemented; they are seeing me every single day until they win!!

What I could without is my good buddy and co-worker who is a volunteer firefighter, and who is about 12, maybe 13 at the most. He's like, "Just think about when you get all new teeth -- living with Fixodent won't be so bad." DUDE! It's a tiny bridge, not a mouthful of false teeth! I love him, but he thinks I'm about ready for the nursing home.

I am surrounded by fascinating people. (Some in a good way....)

Hi, Pete. I have missed you. Jan has some excellent advice. Sorry about the dental work--ouch! I think our usual activities get easier as time goes on. Sitting in a lawn chair outside in the sun with a beer in one hand and a ....ooops.... Or how about, I'll finish the side yard here and then take a break. Get a cold glass of water and smoke a .....oooops...there we go again! I am sure it gets easier, but I've been having those thoughts as well. NOPE

Your mouth will heal faster from your dental work now that you don't smoke. Good luck with the demon dog. The poor orphan dog has a wonderful home now

Hey Peteg! This is one nasty addiction. Be prepared for a bit on an enslaught with each season! That junkie doesn't want to going down easy, and you know he's gonna fight you every chance he's got, especially if he thinks you're starting to wane!

He'll sweet talk you, he'll tease you, he'll challenge you, but he can't win unless you let him!

Remember this is a mental battle! Don't let one little cigarette run your life and steal all your cash! YOU are the one in control, not the stickin junkie! Kick 'em to the curb! Be prepared. It gets easier with every day on this journey and you are doing so well. How about a reward for all your hard work?

I've heard it said over and over again that the entire first year of not smoking brings with it each new season filled with its own smoking triggers. I can definitely say that's how my first year went.

The nicer weather meant smoking more because I was outside more. Last summer I didn't go out quite as much. I didn't sit in my favourite backyard chair...because that's where I had smoked!

And then came fall. Thanksgiving...family...visiting...smoking...then Christmas...and more triggers.

I tried to deal with one trigger at a time and find something new to take its place. At times it wasn't easy...but I made it through that first year one day at a time. And this year...well, Easter is this weekend, and we've got family coming and the thought of smoking hasn't entered my mind.

The more time we put between our last cigarette and today, the easier the journey gets. One day at a time Peteg,

Pete,

The good weather does bring new triggers and this may be your case. What did you give up for lent? How are you coping with that? If you have to have coping mechanisms on hand to help in case of a situational emergency. Can you right down some triggers? Use this to know and avoid and keep yourself strong. You can make it to 100 days and more, don't stop now!

Keep yourself busy with new adventures and challenges as much as you can. Keeps the addict confused and at bay for me. I'm beginning to agree with having to be a non-smoker and say N.O.P.E for four seasons before you truly ARE a non-smoker. We all have different triggers at different times of the year for different social and family functions. It's impossible to think through each of them when we first Quit. We have to re-live them, say N.O.P.E. and move on to our NON-SMOKING futures.

Well you know this time of the year is a trigger for you. So you could make a list of things to do and keep yourself busy, you could come here and post, how about wearing a rubber band around your wrist and when those stinking thoughts come your way snap it; snap it hard

after a few snaps you will think twice about some of those thoughts. I don't why some of us loose our quits and others keep going. I guess it is the addict in us. You know the cycle, break it and let us help.

Hey, Everybody ---

Maybe more than Christmas and New Year (winter solstice for others?), this time of year is a killer for me. Jews and Christians observe Passover and Holy Week/Easter during the same week this year, the weather in our hemisphere is FINALLY becoming a little more hospitable, and summer (my time of year!) is in the air. I LOVE this time of year, but interestingly, every blown quit of mine has happened in April or May. What's up with that? In the midst of new life, I continue to harbor a preference for death?

I'm not so nervous about facing the end of Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and my birthday (which almost always comes with Easter), but I'm aware of a certain -- well, uncertainty about the future. I don't quite get why beautiful weather, holidays of religious significance, and other occasions would make me want to smoke again. It's kinda dumb, really, but there it is. I continue to be my own greatest mystery -- but I guess it's what keeps me young, huh??? (Yikes. It better. Looking at the down-hill side of 60 in less than 2 weeks. Smoking (or something more dramatic) was supposed to kill me before I hit 30!)
