Night Panic Attacks

Dear Lisa, I would suggest taking the anxiety test on the left of your screen. Take the results with you to your family doctor. That way they will know exactly how you've been feeling and they will be able to diagnose you. Keep using the tools and the support group, we are here for you. Susanne

Lisa, my ex-husband had them at night. They use to wake him up in the middle night. Doc told him it was due to stress, put him on Zoloft and they stopped. He's no longer medicated and they never came back. Have you tried the breathing techniques before you go to sleep? I do mine then and they help relax me before I go to sleep. Cheryl

I've had this happen as well, it can be quite frightening, eh? I have an anxiety book that indicates that night panic attacks may be a neuorlogical quirk for some people, but still may be overcome with methods for handling the night attacks. I'll check my book and post more later.

Hi, I've never had panic attacks. Ever. And I don't have them while out doing errands. These seem to only take place at night when I'm trying to go to sleep. I'm guessing they are very mild panic attacks. They seem to occur when I'm just drifting off, and I get a kind of terror in my chest that jolts me awake. There seem to be no other symptoms. I started getting them in our apartment because of the situation with the other tenants downstairs. We moved and the attacks seemed to fade. I began sleeping normally and peacefully. But the attacks returned 4 nights ago. And I have yet to figure out the cause. I'm now afraid to try to sleep at night. Are these panic attacks, or are they something else? Thanks. Lisa.
