I'm a not novice at this - but hey, that means my "craves" can be pretty tough! So, I do the deep breathing bit (because that's the firt thing we all do when we smoke a cig!), I sip water and if those fail, I actually hold my fingers as though I had a cig between them and "smoke" by sucking air through the small gap between them. Maybe that's nuts but I just figure, well in my case, I was smoking over 30 cigs a day. Say it took 10 drags to smoke a cig. That means I was making that sucking motion over 300 times a DAY! To NOT being doing it at all must make the body ( a great creature of habit) woder what the Hell is wrong. And so I look on this as reassuring it in a way. Actually, I am starting to think that my craves aren't really craving anything so much, as the discomfort of missing the whole routine I was doing so often. Nothing is going to fill that really. But since it WAS learned behaviour, I just have to wait until my body learns it's not behaving that way any more. Hang in there. You have done so well. Tell yourself you don't want a fag. it's just a bit of strangeness while you teach your body a whole new and better behaviour. I woke up this morning wanting a cigarette. I've been at work since 7:30 and that's all I can think of. I don't want to have one. Hi H, It is very normal to think about smoking 24/7 when you first quit. So, just know that we were all there, but we are not smoking! You can do it. As the time passes, the cravings get weaker and you do feel better. Your thoughts will not be consumed with remembering NOT to smoke. Hang in there, chew on straws, suck mints or candy, go for alot of walks. Your lifestyle is going to change, go with it. H, Great job on Day 9 - you've almost made it through! I totally agree that a reward at the end of the day would be ideal. Also, it's normal to think about smoking since we did it so many times a day. But...WHAT are you thinking about it? It certainly wasn't all sunshine and cigarettes when we did smoke. Let yourself remember all the things you DISliked about smoking too. It's only fair really ;) It'll get better and the thoughts will fade altogether eventually. You are doing great...BE PROUD! And we'll see you on Day 10 :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 753 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 15,074 Amount Saved: $3388.5 Life Gained: Days: 55 Hrs: 19 Mins: 7 Seconds: 18
