Mild or low tar cigarettes are not safer

Members,

In recent months, there has been a push to remove the labeling on cigarettes. Why? Because mild, extra mild, low tar and other cigarettes are not less harmful to your health.

The move comes after multiple surveys done by Health Canada and others have shown that the general smoking population does in fact believe this to be the case.

Here are a few facts to help dispel this myth:

* Research has shown that mild, light or low tar cigarettes are just as harmful as regular cigarettes as smokers change their smoking habits. Ex: They smoke more cigarettes, inhale deeply, take more puffs, cut filters... all to satisfy their nicotine addiction they've built up.

* The ingredient list in mild, light and low tar are almost identical.

* The amount of tar, carbon monoxide or nicotine between regular, light and other cigarettes.

The only way to to reduce the harmful effects of tobacco is to cut down or better yet quit!
