I get the same reaction plus severe nausea. Taking Ativan or something like it seems to help.

I too suffer with night panic attacks. Just to let you know you are not alone. They are extremely unnerving and you can get so exhausted from lack of quality sleep. I do seem to think that if you can learn better relaxation during the day, it does help at night. I do have some panic free nights.

Hi there Tawny, That sounds horrible!! I’m no expert on these things but try finding a pattern in these terrors. Especially a pattern in the times they occur. If you can work out what time(s) they mostly happen you can set an alarm to wake yourself up before it happens. The idea is to trick the mind into stoping it. Breaking the habit. Talk to a doctor about it too. Ask your doctor about narcolepsy. I don’t mean to alarm you but it’s best to rule everything out. The symptoms you’ve described sound to be me to be more panic attack related then anything. Good luck, hope you get a good nights rest before long.

Hello everyone, I am new. I suffer from GAD, I have experienced the "typical" panic attack, but have had them under control for the past couple of years. My problem now is that I cannot remain asleep. From a deep sleep, I am awakened by a sensation that I have just been startled, I get the shakes, trembling, muscles tighten, heart racing, etc. When this happens I am usually dreaming, or replaying in my mind images of things that I am worried about. How can I control thoughts in my sleep? I have no opportunity to practice self talk, relaxation techniques or any cognitive behavioral remedies because I am asleep. Can anyone offer any explanations, feedback or hope?
