Really, one puff led to that!

me too Rusty, I did the exact same thing. It took smoking 5 cigs before they tasted good and I still did it. That first puff led to 20 more years of me smoking. Thank you so much, Tom, for bumping this. Just a few hours ago I found myself feeling "curious" about whether I could handle just one puff. What an idiot! Of course I can't. Sheesh Rusty, 22 years...that number made a big impression on me. Look how awesome you are doing now, though. Good bump, Tom! I quit smoking for one year back in the early 80s. In my ignorance, I thought I could handle one, so I bummed one. Shortly after, I bummed another. And another. By then I was hooked again, and was too embarrassed to keep bumming, so I bought a pack. If I hadn't bummed that first one, I never would have bought that pack. That one puff led to 22 more years of smoking. As they say on another site, are you willing to go back to your previous level of consumption? Because that is exactly what will happen if you succumb to that junkie lie. Stickin, Thanks for the reminder! The "just one puff" phrase is just a lie for an addict. Been there, done that! Now on day 5 and feeling good! I know. that's what discouraged me too. Right before my fall, I spoke with someone, who is a smoker at the moment, who said they quit for 2 years and started back. And another for 5 years. I was terrified, it made me realize that it is a terrible addiction and there needs to be more help for this! I quit once for three years. I started back by having one puff off a new boyfriend's cig. Now I know why non-smokers don't date smokers, or insist that they don't smoke around them. That was 15 years ago, and I'm just getting around to quitting. I wanted to clarify this. My relative has not smoked in twenty years and continues to be smoke free. Her slip occurred 18 months into a previous quit while she was vacationing in Canada. Be careful not to fall into the "just one trap" as my relative did.
