Today's Wall Street Journal

Wall Street Journal - Thursday June 15,2006 - Page D6 Headline: Most U.S. Smokers Want to Quit But Don't Get Help, Panel Says Story excerpts: "Of the 44.5 million adult smokers in the United States, 70% want to quit, and 40% make a serious quit attempt each year, but fewer than 5% succeed in any given year." This is in part because tobacco is so addictive. But it is also because people don't get the kinds of help that have been shown to work. There's more to the article but those statistics are sobering. Those of us that do quit smoking in any given year are part of a very elite group of people. The other thing that stands out for me, I tried to quit so many times and failed, until this time. This time I worked with my doctor and used NRT's and anti anxiety drugs. I am currently off all of those and I have a good quit going. Anyone who wants to quit - see your doctor if you're having trouble. Some think of NRT's as a crutch, I think of them as a tool that helps a quitter. I see nothing wrong with using every tool at my disposal to kill the nicodemon. Interesting article. Give it a read if you run across today's journal. Wow Mama - That's assuming that the tools to quit smoking do not imnprove over the next 28 years and that the death rate of smokers remains constant as well. I think those will change as time goes by. They are coming up with better and better ways of quitting, and treating smoking related diseases. Very interesting concept mama..... The day smoking is dead will be a great day indeed.
